RPT OPENS THE DOOR TO INNOVATION

DROP AND GO?

A product that can be installed with native soil and not require a gravel backfill has long been desired.  Any such product that would perform well in this scenario would by nature need to be quite different from standard pipe.  The corrugator process however, simply does not lend itself to anything other than round, uniform structures.  A structure like the one shown below would be virtually impossible to produce on a corrugator.  With the RPT process this structure can easily be produced.

 LOOKING FOR 120 INCH PIPE?

Very large diameter pipe is simply not practical on a corrugator.  A corrugation that is large enough and thick enough to provide adequate structure for 120 inch pipe could not be properly formed on a corrugator.  This is the main reason why many corrugated pipe manufacturers are limited to 60 inch.  With RPT, much larger pipes than 60 inch can be produced without such process limitations.  The rib height and thickness can be whatever is required to obtain the requiste stiffness.

RIBBED PVC PIPE

A conventional corrugator will have a lot of challenges producing corrugated PVC pipe.  This is the primary reason why very little PVC pipe is corrugated.  The RPT process resolves all of these issues and lower melt strength (lower cost) materials can be used.  With the RPT process there is precision thickness control and contact cooling on all surfaces.  This makes the RPT process well suited for processing PVC.   As a result, PVC pipe manufacturers now have an opportunity to develop low weight high rigidity products to compete directly with HDPE drainage pipe.

ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

Because RPT is based on IM there are many new products that are now practical to consider.  These are not pie in the sky ideas.   These are all products that can readily be produced with existing IM technologies.  Below is a list of additional opportunities that are now possible with the RPT process.

  • Reinforced ribs by way of insert molding (metal, carbon, glass, etc.)
  • Reinforced ribs by way of direct inject (fiber, minerals, etc.)
  • Weight reduction by way of foaming technology
  • IM quality thick wall pressure pipes
  • Ribbed pressure pipes
  • Specialty shapes and profiles
  • Non pipe applications
